Morro Dois Irmãos Hike with Views near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

view from Dois Irmãos

Morro Dois Irmãos is an ecological park at the Western end of Leblon, technically not in Rio de Janeiro. One major draw is the ability to hike the two brothers, neighboring hills, with great views of both Leblon and Ipanema. The hike only takes a couple hours and allows for some excellent photo opportunities.

To reach this hike, one must go through the Vidigal favela (neighborhood…). The favela is quite peaceful and has seen increased visitation from tourists, artists and celebrities. After arriving just inside Vidigal, you can either walk or grab a moto-taxi (R$5) to the top of the community, or you can catch a kombi (R$2.50). There are two ways to get on the trail. Tips:

  • It’s probably best to avoid this trail during or directly following heavy rain.
  • Personally, I’d pack a picnic.
  • In writing this post I found this blog incredibly helpful: Não Paro Quieta.
  • For four other Rio area hikes, check this site.
