2014 Vehicle Comparison: a few sport wagons, crossovers and small SUVs

For those of you who might currently be car shopping for a sport wagon, crossover or small SUV, I thought you might benefit from some of the facts I’ve recently compiled. The chart below shows various models of 2014 vehicles on the market and characteristic data reported by the manufacturer.2014 cars

The variables that I’ve focused on include:

  • base price in USD
  • EPA highway & city mileage
  • cargo capacity in cubic feet with the rear seats up and down
  • full length of the vehicle in inches
  • horsepower
  • torque

The vehicles that I have profiled include:

  • Acura – MDX, RDX, TSX sport wagon
  • Audi – Allroad, Q5
  • Honda – CR-V, Crosstour
  • Jeep – Compass
  • Mazda – 3 sport wagon in various trims
  • Subaru – Crosstrek, Forester, Impreza 5 door (wagon), Outback
  • Volkswagen – Golf, Jetta Sportwagen, Tiguan

I originally made this file in Microsoft Excel and used conditional formatting to highlight the characteristic values that I was most interested in. Since others may want to emphasize different data or add to the table, I am attaching the Excel file here for you if you’d like to download and work off of it: 2014cars. I hope you find this information helpful and please feel free to leave any comments or questions for me.
